How Are Airborne Diseases Transmitted?
We find four stages of airborne disease transmission. None of these relate to bloodborne pathogens as found in crime scene cleanup work.
1. Infection begins with invading pathogens (germs).
2. Disease-causing bacteria, virus, fungus, or parasites leave their host, their carrier.

Here's how:

• Airborne pathogens ejected from carriers by sneezes or coughs contaminate breathing space;
• Airborne pathogens now invade a new host and begin to grow, causiing disease and another population for ejection to breathing space;

So in the case of airborne pathogens, infection occurs from airborne pathogens, airborne germs.

What can we do to protect ourselves from airborne germs?

Avoid dark, cramped, places where many people concentrate for prolonged periods of time. Even this will not help if an infected person sneezes or coughs. When known pathogens are on the move, infecting many people, stay out of close quarters whenever possible. Practically speaking, a surgical mask worn over both mouth and nose cuts transmission down mightily.

A second person becomes a carrier after inhaling an airborne pathogen in great enough quantities to effectively hold their own against this new carrier's defenses against germs (pathogens). This way of transmitting itself ensures airborne pathogens a long historty and perhaps a longer future.
